Welcome back!

Hey, just out of curiosity, have you guys seen that television commercial where the guy is sitting in a psychiatrist’s office talking about a dream he had… and the psychiatrist starts explaining everything in Russian? The commercial is for a stockbroker/investment company. I wonder if they really thought about what they were doing when they put forth this commercialized passport to insanity. Think about it… they are comparing the talk of investment counsellors to Russian… meaning, even though it’s in English they think you can’t understand it. THEY, on the other hand, claim to speak in a way you will understand. What does that REALLY say? “Come to US! We are as dumb as we think YOU are!”

I am pleasingly plump. I admit it. And, as one who is plump, with an ever expanding backside, I have halfheartedly looked into weight loss programs on and off over the years. The one thing they all seem to have in common is that they don’t work. At least, not for ME. I seem to lose weight when I decide I am losing weight, and that happens no matter how much or how little I am eating. I have a little problem with the idea of diet pills, and there are so many. I have a friend who swears by Lipozene, for example. I keep telling her that it is working for her because she BELIEVES it’s working. I could get the same result from a sugar pill. It just doesn’t make sense to me to put yet another chemical into this body. There are so many you can’t avoid anyway, from our preserved foods to our drinking water. Why add to it? Ah well… some folks never learn.

Hey, guys, I just got some GREAT news. You have heard of the George Foreman grills, right? The ones that are really healthy to use because they cook with no fat? Well, I just got word that the company is sending me one for FREE just because I can tell you about it here. I’m going to do more than TELL you about it…. I am going to SHOW you. After I get my new grill, I’ll be doing a video about it… look for it in the next couple weeks. I am so excited about this! I have been looking for a way to make my husband’s meals healthier, but he doesn’t usually like the end result when it comes to flavor… he says that the healthy things tend to be bland. Well, just WAIT till he tastes what I will be able to do with this grill! Seriously, folks, tune in in a couple weeks. If this grill is even HALF as good as what I have heard about it, you are gonna wanna put it on your Christmas list. I’ll let you know.

You know, mentioning Tears for Fears in that last post made me homesick for the eighties. Things were SO much simpler when I was a teenager. The only thing I really had to worry about was making my allowance stretch to the next week. There were problems in the world, of course, but they were OUT THERE, not in my little world. Our generation actually started a lot of the things this current generation of teens THINK they started. Like upturned collars on polo shirts… fashion shoe laces… Cabbage Patch dolls…. Wow. Well, we haven’t had a Musical Memory in a while, and so I think I’ll just drag you along on my trip down Memory Lane.

You can’t tell anymore from the name of a thing exactly what it is. Life is getting more confusing by the day, I swear. I hear a brand name these days, and wonder what songs they sing. Seriously…. take Stone Dragon, for example. I thought it was a rock group. Seems it is actually something to do with bodybuilding… or something. Weird part is, I actually own the domain stone-dragon.com. I thought it would make a great blog name, but never used it. And Orovo. When I heard the name orovo, I thought, VACUUM CLEANER! Turns out, they are a darn good food supplement type company. Then again, “Tears for Fears” sounds like a charity drive, kind of like Live-Aide or something, but they really ARE a rock group (or were… I am kinda out of touch). I think I am gonna give up and just take a nap.

You know, it has been a real education trying to handle raising my granddaughter. Oh, the baby herself is just fine. It’s learning what they are doing with all the new versions of old baby products. For example, I had never even HEARD of a Bob stroller. A little investigation tells me that this is a stroller frame into which to snap your baby’s car seat. That’s handy, I suppose. I’ll have to think about it, though. I am not overly fond of the car seat we wound up paying way too much for. She’s just about to outgrow it anyway. The same place where I found that stroller has others that are more to my liking. Looks like I am gonna spend the morning shopping, doesn’t it?

One of the things that seems to have changed a lot over the years is the movie experience. It struck me hard last night, when they were giving a report on the news about the top grossing movies of the week. My kids have been movied to death. Heck, even in SCHOOL when the teachers don’t feel like teaching, they show movies. But back when I was a kid, it was different. There was just something a little magical about going to the theater, sitting down in front of that huge screen with your soda and Ju Ju Be candies, and watching something you couldn’t see anywhere else. The DVDs and VHS movies are so available today that a great experience has been stolen from our kids. The more you do something, the less exciting it becomes. It’s sad.
