Welcome back!
Well, last night was interesting. A bulb had just blown in our beautiful but incredibly hard to get into bathroom lighting fixture and I was trying to figure out how to change it when the phone rang. It was late, and with my sister in the hospital I am always fearful of late calls… they always seem to spell some kind of disaster. THIS call, however, spelled “nitwit” instead. I pick up the phone on a blocked call and hear a rather familiar male voice oozing sarcasm as he said “Grandma?” I answered “No” automatically before it registered who was on the phone, and he hung up on me. Hello again, Cody, I thought to myself as I hung up the phone.
Cody was my eldest daughter’s high school boyfriend, one of about three, actually. He was a nice enough boy at the time. After high school, he and my daughter dated again for a short while before she got married and left the state. In the meantime, she had a baby… and Cody seems to think he had something to do with it. Given the timing, that isn’t really likely. However, nothing like sound reasoning stops this young man… except maybe a large magnet. This boy wears so much metal through all areas of his anatomy that the magnet might just do the trick. I am really hoping we don’t have to get legal with this kid… but the harrassment is getting more than a little annoying.

I apologize for not getting on here to wish everyone a merry Christmas this year… it’s been a bit hectic around here. With my sister’s hospital stay interrupting things, and the worries about her (she STILL isn’t home), and my eldest spending her first Christmas away from home in another state, AND the baby’s first Christmas, well, it’s been busy. I did find it interesting that this year we did not in fact get a single cappucino maker. Not one. This year, it was espresso machines. Yes, plural. We have a lot of out of town relatives. These things must have been on serious sale somewhere.
In any case, I’ll be back later with more details. Happy Holidays, everyone.

Well, folks, it’s almost Christmastime, and commercialization is at it’s height. Have you been out there lately? Even out here in the remotest reaches of civilization, the stores are packed. People are rushing to get to that last playstation 3 or xbox, and the gaiety sometimes even requires police involvement. Seriously, folks, if you have a kid whose Christmas is just going to be ruined if they don’t get that latest electronic gizmo, you might want to re-evaluate how you raised your kids. Making them happy is one thing, but spoiling them rotten is another.

Anyone who has been a long term reader of this blog knows that I think our local television station is in a class entirely by itself… and they have proven it once again. Here’s one to make folks fall off their bar stools…. there has been a lot of hype, everywhere, I am sure, about what they are calling “the big switch”, the thing where they tell us for the fiftieth time that in February we can’t get analog reception anymore. Last week, our local station ran what they called a test during the news broadcast… for a minute or two, they switched to digital and turned off the analog, explaining that this way, you would know whether you were ready or not. So, they switch off the analog. Then they explain exactly, in minute detail, how to fix the problem if you still didn’t receive digital signal… BEFORE TURNING THE ANALOG SIGNAL BACK ON. No one who actually NEEDED this info got to see it. Don’t you just love modern competence?
